Employment law is an imperative and ever-changing topic which regulates the professional relationship between you and your staff members. As an employer, you should have some basic knowledge of your employees’ rights and upcoming changes to legislation, for example, the yearly increase of the national minimum wage.

Employers should do as much as they can to familiarise themselves with all aspects of employment law and not just in order to minimize the chances of facing legal action. Following your duties laid out under employment law (relating to health and safety, diversity and holidays, for example) will lead to an overall more motivated and engaged workforce, which in turn helps your business to prosper.

In the most serious instances, failing to adhere to employment law legislation can land you in an employment tribunal and the reputational damage, fees and loss of productivity incurred from this can be incredibly damaging to your business.
